The Quick Shot!

Filed under: 2008 posts, Succesful hunts — Phil @ 7:51 pm

A great hunter made a quick shot and dropped a nice deer in the 130 inch range.  Steve was sitting in a buddy stand on the south side of the farm overlooking three bean fields and a hot scrape.   He said the deer sprinted out of the woods and came to a sudden stop in front of the fence.   He saw the nice antlers for only a few short moments and the deer presented a shot at the lungs through a small opening of the brush along the fence line.   Steve shot at the buck and dropped him right where it was standing.  The 25.06 and his steady aim did the job at 65 yards.  When he called me to tell me that he had shot this deer, he was wondering why the deer had ran out of the woods like it did.   I had to tell him that there was probably a bigger buck that chased him out.   He did not want to hear that, at all.   But, in my mind that is the only thing that would of scared him out like that.   Steve would like to think otherwise.

Monday evening on stand

Filed under: 2008 posts, Buck Sightings, Deer Movement — HANK @ 1:46 pm

I spent some time in one of our tripods yesterday evening overlooking two bean fields.  I was absolutely covered up with deer from about 4:00 until dark.  Seen a total of 23 deer and at one point I had 9 deer in front of me at one time.  Five of which were bucks!!!  A small spike, two fork horns, a two year old 7 pointer, and a 120-130 inch 9 pointer with an extra G-2 that was probalby 2 to 2 and 1/2 years old.  Got to see the 9 spar a little bit with both of the fork horns.   Was an exciting night on stand.  Still had deer all around me when I got down after dark.   It was a very entertaining evening on stand.

Opening weekend in the books.

Opening weekend has came and went.  We seen several shooter bucks and lots of up and coming monsters in the making.  We did get a good buck (130 inch) on the ground and an absolute monster was killed on our neighbors property to the North.  This buck will score in the 160-170 range.  Check our gallery pages later on in the week to see these deer.  We want to thank Steve, Matt, Russ, and Justin for coming down and hunting with us.  We enjoyed having you around and look forward to having you all back soon.  Great hunters and more importantly great people.  Once again thanks guys!!!

Wide 9 pointer sighted

Filed under: 2008 posts, Buck Sightings — HANK @ 11:51 am

On the evening of October 26th a very nice, wide 9 pointer was seen in a bean field.   It’s the same wide 9 in our trail cam section of our gallery page.  Nate was able to get a very short video of him.

Monster double split brow tine BUCK sighted

Filed under: 2008 posts, Buck Sightings — HANK @ 11:45 am

On the evening of October 24th, a massive 12 point buck was spotted.  Both of his brow tines are split.  He was within 65 yards of our stand, and feeding across the middle of a bean field without a care in the world.   He has mass, length, width, character, you name it, he’s got it.

Has the Rut started in Missouri?

While driving around our properties Tuesday Oct. 21, we saw a few bucks just after dark.  One of them was already following a doe around.   Could the rut be starting?  We also got some new trail came pics of a few more bucks.   We added them to the trail cam pics on our website.   Check them out   http://loneoakoutfitting.com/trailcamera.html
