Second weekend success!!

Filed under: Succesful hunts — HANK @ 3:04 pm

We were able to get two good bucks on the ground.  A 9 and a 10 pointer.  Both of them had some pretty unique charectiristics.  Stay tuned to our harvested section of our gallery page for pics of these bucks.

Rifle season or rainy season?

For the first 4 days of rifle season we had a group in from the Sunshine State of Florida.  Unfortunately the sunshine didn’t come with them.  It was 4 straight days of nothing but rain.  Made for some awful huntng for the most part.  The good news is that we did see an absolute GIANT 10 pointer on the Friday before gun season started and again on Saturday during the rain.  We are guessing this deer makes Boone and Crockett.  Really massive, tall, wide, and some kickers.  The group was not able to get one down, but boy did they hunt hard.  Real troopers to hunt in this Missouri Monsoon.  We got almost 6 inches of rain in the 4 days they were here.

We want to thank Justin, Brit, and Fred for coming to hunt with us.  Sorry the weather did not cooperate.  We appreciate you guys sticking it out and were very glad to have you come and hunt with us.  Really enjoyed having them around.  Take care

November 6th-8th Bow Hunts

Filed under: Buck Sightings, Deer Movement — HANK @ 1:51 pm

Had a group of 5 in bow hunting from right here in Missouri from November 6th thru the 8th.  The weather was gorgeous, but not real favorable for Missouri bow hunting in November.  We had high temps in the mid to upper 70’s!  We were not real happy with the heat, but had high hopes for the weekend.

Every one of our hunters reported seeing a shooter buck.   Some layed eyes on several.  We had reports of 120 class, 130 class, 140 class, 150 class, and a report on a true giant of at least 160.  Lots of action, lots of bucks chasing does.  No one was able to arrow a buck.  They were able to get a couple does.  They all said if they had rifles that weekend they would have for sure have gotten a nice buck.

We’d like to thank Adam, Jeff, Steve, Jason, and especially Jonathan, for coming up and spending a few days bow hunting with us.  We donated some hunts to a cancer benifit that Jonathan was the winning bidder on.  We were happy to help and we know that they appreciated what Jonathan did for them as well.

They stayed hard at it all 3 days even though the weather was so warm to hunt in.  Thanks again fellas.

October 31st youth season. A night of firsts.

I was lucky enough to take my 14 year old cousin on the youth hunt on October 31st.  It was Dustin’s first ever deer hunt and it was not without some GREAT action.  We got on stand around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.  We had not even sat down yet and there was a very nice 150 inch 10 pointer in the bean field to our left.  He was way out of range for the rifle Dustin was using, but how awesome is it to have the first deer you see on your first ever hunt be a monster buck like that?  We were pretty pumped up to say the least.  We watched him feed for just a minute and he walked off into the timber.  We then had a small doe come out 85 yards in front of us. We watched her come out and feed in the beans off and on for an hour.  During that time we had a mature doe and two smaller bucks come out into the bean field.  The bucks actually locked horns and sparred for a while.  Eventually walking off to the West of us.  Some hunters can go a lifetime without seeing a 150 class buck or two bucks lock horns.  Dustin got to see both in one night!! We seen a total of 14 deer from 3:30 to dark.  It was almost non-stop action.  Dustin ended up getting a doe that night.  Made a very nice shot and dropeed her where she stood.  Really fun experience and a memorable one for Dustin as well.

We had some great guys in this past weekend.  Mike and Bill from Tennessee.  We had a real good time with them and are glad they came back to hunt with us.  Unfortunately Bill got sick and they had to cut their trip short.   We had a good weekend of hunting, but the buck sightings were few and far between.  We want to thank Bill and Mike for coming up and hunting.  We had a real good time with them. Thanks again guys!

Opening day of bow season is only 2 weeks away!

Bow season opens on September 15th in Missouri.    The corn and beans were put in late again this year because of the wet weather.  Should make for some real good early season hunting.  We still have some spots open on the early season 2 for 1 special.  A group of 4 could hunt 4 days for $1,600 FOR THE WHOLE GROUP  from September 15th to October 21st !! . Don’t think you will find a better deal out there. THERE ARE NO TROPHY FEES!!!   Price does not include food, lodging or tags.  Out of state tags are $225 over the counter.  No draw.  In Missouri you get 2 deer tags and 2 turkey tags with your permit.  You can shoot a buck before rifle season and after rifle season with your bow. Or if you don’t get one before rifle season with your bow, you can shoot 2 bucks with your bow after rifle season.    Drop us an email or join our blog if you have any questions.  Take care

Wanted to let everyone know about a great group of people who are helping get kids involved in the outdoors.  Mike Pick and his Dad, Bill Pick, are the owners and operators of www.youngsportsman.com  It’s a great website for young and older people alike who are interested in hunting, fishing, or the outdoors in general.  Mike is a pretty amazing kid.  When I met Mike he was only 15.  He heard somewhere that the youth of America are less involved in outdoor activities and hunting than they ever have been.  He took it upon himself to create this website to create more interest in the outdoor life and hunting as a whole.  Not sure he ever takes a break from doing the things he loves.  He and his Dad came from Tennessee to film a youth turkey hunt with us in April.  Absolutely GREAT people.  If you have kids interested in the outdoors you should check out their website at www.youngsportsman.com  It’s a great place to post pics of your deer, turkey, bear, elk, fish, you name it.  Lots of forums to discuss many different topics.  Great website and more importantly great people.  Take Care

2008 vs 2009

As some of you may or may not know, 2008 was our first year in the outfitting business.  What an exciting year it was.  Met some GREAT people and seen allot of really good deer and turkey.  Got to see an absolute MONSTER of a buck that was killed on our neighbor’s property with another outfitter.  I personally saw this deer in October while on stand with my 15 year old cousin Austin on his first bow hunt.  Talk about pumping a kid up.  We have some pics of it on our harvested deer section on our web page.  We appreciate them letting us take the pics.  They do a good job of helping manage the deer herd for monsters like that.  I believed he scored around 170″.  Just had a blast spending time in the outdoors with our clients, friends, and family.  We learned allot in our first year.  We received allot of great advice from some people and got a whole new perspective on hunting and the hunting business in general.  We’ve made some small but important changes.  For 2009 we have upgraded to a much nicer and safer hang on stand for our bow hunters.  Our rifle stands, single, buddy, and tri-pods are still the same.  Real comfortable and safe.  Safety is our number one priority.  We want you to enjoy your hunt also, but we want to be safe doing it.  You will still receive the same courteous, polite, and friendly staff as 2008, we will just no longer be rookies in the business.    We are a now veterans of a year in the business and hopefully a bit wiser and even more knowledgeable.    We are extremely blessed to do what we love.  Take Care.

Gearing up for 2009 deer season!

Hello fellow hunters!  Bow season is right around the corner.  Just a little over 5 weeks away.  We are running a real good early season special from September 15th to October 21st.  Two hunts for the price of one!  Great deal that will fill up quickly I imagine.  We are only taking a limited amount of hunters for this great opportunity, so act fast.  There will be more details on our website within the next week.  There will also be some updated pricing and hopefully some monster buck trail cam pics.  I’m checking them tomorrow.  Check back with us soon for more updates.  Take care

Firearms season

In a nutshell, firearms season for us at Lone Oak Outfitting was tough. The wind was terrible.   All of our clients did see shooter bucks, but chose to pass on them, they were too far off, or missed their shot.   We did get one good buck on the ground opening weekend.  It scored around 135.   We seen allot of good young bucks that will hopefully make it through to next season.  All in all the rifle season was exciting and full of action.  We got some good video of some great bucks, got a good one on the ground, got some pics of a monster buck shot just across the road from our property on a neighbors ground, and we met some really great people.  We would like to thank Steve and his son Matt, Russ and his son Justin, and Wade for hunting with us.  Great people and hopefully they will all come back next year to hunt with us.
